Can I skip moisturizer and just apply sunscreen?
For oily skin, skipping moisturiser and applying sunscreen directly is a popular approach that keeps the routine simple and reduces shine. For dry or combination skin, a light moisturiser underneath generally improves comfort and prevents the sunscreen from feeling tight or patchy. The key is whether your skin type feels adequately hydrated with sunscreen alone.
Several modern sunscreens are formulated with enough hydrating ingredients that a separate moisturiser is not needed for oily and normal skin types. A week-long trial is the best way to decide. Apply sunscreen without moisturiser for a week and observe your skin by midday. If it feels comfortable, hydrated, and not tight, the sunscreen is sufficient on its own. If you notice flakiness, tightness, or dehydrated-looking skin, adding a lightweight moisturiser underneath resolves this without overcomplicating the routine.
