Do I have to wash sunscreen every day?
Yes, sunscreen should be washed off at the end of the day. Sunscreen sits on the surface of the skin and, after a full day of UV exposure, pollution, and sweat, needs to be properly cleansed. Leaving it on overnight can block pores and prevent your skin from going through its natural overnight repair process.
A gentle face wash is sufficient to remove most sunscreen formulas. If you wear a heavy mineral sunscreen or have used a water-resistant formula, double cleansing (starting with a cleansing oil or balm, followed by a water-based cleanser) ensures thorough removal. There is no benefit to leaving sunscreen on overnight and some potential for congestion if it is not removed, particularly for acne-prone skin. Cleansing sunscreen off properly each evening is also the best preparation for any overnight skincare you apply, as clean skin absorbs actives more effectively.
