How to choose a sunscreen for oily skin?
For oily skin, look for a sunscreen labelled as gel, fluid, or aqua-type, with SPF 50 PA++++, and described as oil-free or non-comedogenic. The texture should feel light and absorb quickly without leaving a greasy residue. Avoid thick cream or lotion formats designed for dry or mature skin, as these often cause congestion on oily skin.
Texture is the most important practical factor when choosing sunscreen for oily skin. Beyond that, check the UV rating and make sure both SPF 50 and PA++++ are present. Some formulas marketed for oily skin also include ingredients like silica or niacinamide that help manage shine throughout the day. Trial is important. A sunscreen that works well on oily skin should feel comfortable immediately after application and not feel heavy by midday. A small amount of shine by afternoon is normal for oily skin, but the sunscreen should not significantly amplify this.
